JOY

Holy Winter time blues, Batman! Does this happen to the rest of you? Phew, I can’t wait for spring, lots of friend time, farmer’s markets, the laughter of kiddos on a playground, splashing in the pool, warmth and sunshine. When I am in a mood like this, I always love to go look at pictures of my kiddos! They make me happy. Most of my pictures of them are not posed (They are not fond of Mama with her camera!  Owen (when he was 3) looked at me sternly, told me to put down my camera and enjoy myself. It’s a very humbling when your three year old sees right through you.) and involve a whole lot of goofiness.

Who doesn’t need a reminder of one of the best days in your life,  a picture of your family having a blast together or a picture of your child laughing like crazy to wash away the dreariness?  I love to be able to provide my clients with a little bit of joyous beauty that can brighten a day!  It’s definitely one of the many reasons why I love this job. Certainly, we can remember these things without a photograph but to have it recorded in beautiful way… well, that is just a bonus, right?

This is one of my favorite family images that I have ever taken! A whole lot of joy and some of my favorite people!!

Movement

I know this a weird title for a blog post on a photography blog but stay with me:

I LOVE movement in photographs.  I think it helps add life into images. It can add a sense of whimsy and fun as well! I often get my clients to walk for me, run, jump, and skip. You get the drift. Of course, I usually stick to age appropriate behavior. I don’t tend to get my engaged couples to jump on the bed…. I usually reserve that for the kiddos (side note: I am  not saying that you are too old to bounce once you hit a certain age…I am still quite fond of jumping on the trampoline). I have heard rumors that Bill Gates has a padded trampoline room. Who knows if it is true but it certainly sounds like fun! It especially sounds like fun to a mom of toddlers. Those rainy days can be hard to fill (thank you Cartwheels and Coffee).

Anyway, back on topic:

People sometimes look at me like I am crazy when I ask them to do such things but I love it as much as I love a good hard laugh in photographs (That is another time that I get some crazy looks). When I say “Could you just look at each other and laugh? I know that you are going to feel silly but then you will laugh for real and it will be beautiful.” I am sure that my clients think that I am crazy but it’s all to get you guys comfortable with the camera, to get you comfortable with me and to interact with each other during family or an engagement shoot. Ryan (my brother who second shoots with me) always cringes when I say “Just pretend like you like each other.” Of course, I am joking and it helps lighten the mood. We have to make you all comfortable somehow! Anyway, I hope this preps you for when I am getting you to truck down the street for the 6th time to get the shot!!

You all have a fabulous day!

A sneak peek

I can tell that spring has hit because my portrait season is now in full swing. This and fall are my favorite times to photograph kids. The kids can hang in there a while because it hasn’t gotten too hot yet or too cold. Besides that it is such a great way to spend a beautiful day! I have also gotten to shoot some of the CUTEST babies  lately…. definitely a nice way to get that baby fix:)   I have a bunch of shoots to post and my sites will be getting a much needed update this week so check back!  Here is a little peek from one of my shoots from this week! More Soon!!

The “N” Boys

This shoot happened on one of those winter days that you can’t tell if it is going to be beautiful or a complete downpour the next second. Some shoots are laid back and some are completely full energy… this one was definitely the latter of the two. We had a great time running around the farm and got a ton of shots that were full of energy. The boys and their mom could not possibly be any cuter so my job was super easy on this one! I can’t wait to see you guys again soon! Hopefully, the next time we shoot, it will be a bit warmer for us:)!

Best,

Meghan

Little “O”

I am seriously so lucky… I have the world’s best clients! Each shoot is so much fun because I love meeting new people and getting glimpses into their lives and families. I am such a family oriented person that I really love being able to capture families. This shoot was no exception with a stunningly, beautiful little girl and her equally gorgeous parents!! Not only is she cute but I don’t think she really minds having her picture taken either!! I hope you guys enjoy!!
