Abby and Mike were faced with one of those wedding days where nothing goes as planned because mother nature swoops in a shows everyone whose boss. They handled it with grace, adjusted their plans and the day went off without a hitch. They and their guests had a blast and really that’s all that matters! Here is a much anticipated first glance at the wedding (Hi Abby!:) which was filled with beautiful thoughtful details and lots of fun! I think my favorite shot is Abby walking in with her dad. There is a giant raindrop in between the tents and Abby’s face is priceless as she tries to get through the two tents without getting too wet!

Often, I have people ask me why I am a photographer? So I thought you all might be interested that the answer is you. I find people fascinating… not bugs, flowers, city streets or buildings. I’ve taken my fair share of those photos and for me they have their place but my passion lies in capturing emotion between people (and I’ll admit it. I also love beautiful light!). I find body language and relationships a fascinating thing to study and what better place to do so than a wedding or a family shoot.

When I am perusing art galleries and looking at current fine art, fashion or commercial work, it doesn’t resonate with me in the same way that a photo will that holds a relationship as it’s subject or the laughter of a child. So often in our culture, current advertising campaigns focus on form and looking cool over looking happy. That is not my style and never will be with any of my work. I started taking pictures of children long ago (because my little sister was available and didn’t mind me shooting pictures of her). She would pose or ignore my camera but either way I was able to capture little aspects of her that I still love to look at to this day.

It is my life’s work to capture those little joys that pop up in life… Your babies’ first tooth, the look that a groom gives his bride on her wedding day, the laughter of your sweet toddler, the jumble of a family photo where everyone’s personalities shine through. I hope that my work has given my clients a little slice of life and of joy captured that they hold close always. Let’s face it life ebbs and flows and I am happy that I can help give you a moment of joy captured that will give you strength when you need it.

Since nothing in the world gives me more joy than these two little urchins, I’ll share a couple of images of my own babies that always make me smile.

I don’t think I need to elaborate on this one… this girl… she holds my heart and has so much light bottled up in her soul.

These half-grown in teeth…. A moment come and gone so quickly.

We have spent countless hours of my sibling’s childhood and my children’s childhood on this very trampoline. All of their hair looks like this by the time we are done and it always gives me a giggle.

This summer we found some rabid bunnies in the Central Park Zoo. They made me laugh so I decided they could come back home with me. ;p

Here is another example of what the client ordered for their images! I think that this is helpful along with the other posts that I will be sharing to show how I shoot children (ha… this always makes me laugh now even though the phrase has been one I have used my entire adult life. One of my friend’s called attention to it and (yeah cynthia!) thinks that my slogan should be “I would rather be shot by Meghan McSweeney!”). Anyway, I digress… the way that I shoot the majority of my sessions with older children is that I find a spot for them that works well for the composition as well as the lighting but I don’t really pose them. I let them do their thing and find that it helps me capture their personalities in a easier manner. For instance, I think that personalities of these two little people really shine through in this session!
